No, it is not a vegan Fanta recipe, although it looks like Fanta. It is my secret anti flu weapon. Flu season is almost over now. Although the rainy weather here in Düsseldorf, will probably prolong it a bit. Thanks to you, Corona Virus. But you don’t know my spicy ginger orange tea yet 😉
Do you know that when you come home in the evening after a long day and just feel under the weather? It’s as if you have been hit by a truck, everything hurts, you have a light sore throat and in your mind you already change all plans for next week because you expect to be tied to your bed for at least 3 days? Like: Ok, today is Friday, tomorrow I’m sure to get a runny nose and high temperature, which will last until Sunday, where I maybe develop a cough.

That means, tennis on Monday night can be canceled. Great, and when will I be able to go to the gym again? Yoga on Wednesday may work again if I don’t try so hard. Jogging won’t be possible until next week. Thank you flu! How nice that you still managed to track me down in March, at the very end of the flu season. I haven’t heard from you all winter and autumn, despite two long-haul flights with a 12-hour cough and sniff concert and 3-4 times a week coworking space?!
The Secret Anti Flu Tea
But I’m not giving up yet! Fortunately, I have my miracle cure, which is particularly effective during this undefinable early stage. It’s when there is no runny nose or cough yet, but when you just feel broken and sore and have the feeling that something is coming soon. Even though it’s probably a bit of an imagination, too, but when I have drunk two large cups of my strong ginger-orange tea, it is as if the viruses were washed away. In addition, I stay at home for a day and rinse my nose twice a day with salt water and the next day I usually feel a lot better again.
The Right Amount of Ginger
The secret here is that you have to grate the ginger very finely, then you have beautiful, juicy ginger pulp. I always use this grater for ginger. It’s very practical and you also can use it for grating lemon or orange zest. Often, ginger tea is served as a couple of ginger slices poured with water. There is no comparison to this here. You can of course vary the intensity yourself, not everyone likes it so spicy. The information in the recipe is how I like the ginger orange tea, and how it works for me. But you can figure out how it is most comfortable for you. At the beginning, you might want to take less ginger with the same amount of water. Then, if you feel you like more ginger, try to add a little more.
Of course, the spicy ginger orange tea is not only a perfect fit when you have the flu. It’s a great alternative to coffee or black tea, and you can serve it for afternoon tea with some Chocolate Cookies with Coconut and Himalayan Salt.
